Internet : community of values or mass division?
As we all know, Internet is a big, a huge mess. And when man is in an unknown (though hostile) environment, he gets spontaneously near to the people he has more things in common with. That's probably the first reason why Internet creates communities of values, and why every company tries to do that anyway.
Surfing on the Web is the best way to understand this phenomenon. Indeed, websites mixing all sorts of informations are becoming more and more rare, and on the contrary the mood is nowadays to the creation of websites gathering people around one or few values, such as MySpace. Before being a meeting people website, MySpace was a community website known only by musicians.
But, further than that, it's becoming obvious that companies' digital communication strategy is more and more pointed towards the creation of social interfaces of sharing processes. For example, both TF1 and M6 have created their sharing video's space on the Internet : TF1 with wat.tv and M6 with wideo.fr. This kind of website gather people around the values of the TV channel, while Meetic gather people around the value of open-minded, and the will to meet new people. And it works...
Thus, undoubtedly, Internet leads to the creation of communities gathered around similar values.
Yet, to a far extend, wouldn't this behaviour lead to a division of the mass, and an imprisonment of people around what they are familiar with instead of widening their view of others?
